Southwest District Scholarship Opportunities

W. T. Burton Grand Champion Scholarship Award - $1,500.00 

The W. T. Burton Scholarship honors the legacy of W. T. Burton and his commitment to agriculture, education, and the youth of Southwest Louisiana.

Exhibitors may accumulate points on no more than three (3) animals (market and/or breeding), including animals entered in showmanship.

J. C. Barman Memorial Beef Achievement Award - $1,500.00 

The J. C. Barman Beef Achievement Award recognizes the contributions and dedication of J. C. Barman to the livestock industry and youth development. Awarded to deserving graduating seniors, this scholarship supports students as they continue their education and prepare for future careers.

Application forms must be submitted by 4:00 p.m. - Saturday, January ___, 2027 in the Livestock Barn Office at the Burton Complex.

​

Participation Scholarship - $3,000.00 

The Participation Scholarship recognizes graduating seniors who have demonstrated a long-term commitment to the Southwest District Livestock Show & Rodeo and/or Light Horse Show. This scholarship is awarded to twelve (12) deserving seniors, with awards available for students pursuing either a college degree or vocational/trade school education.

 

Applicants must have participated in the Southwest District Livestock Show or Light Horse Show for a minimum of three (3) years, including the current year, and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. In addition to the application, students are required to submit an essay and participate in an interview as part of the selection process.
