The Southwest District Western Heritage Parade is a beloved tradition that officially kicks off rodeo week and celebrates the rich western and agricultural heritage of Southwest Louisiana. Held annually in Lake Charles, the parade features trail riders, covered wagons, horses, floats, marching groups, and western-themed entries that honor the history and pageantry of rodeo culture.

 

The parade coincides with the arrival of the Western Heritage Trail Riders into Lake Charles, creating a unique and authentic western experience for spectators of all ages. Families line the streets as riders in full western attire make their way through downtown, leading directly into the opening night of the Southwest District Livestock Show & Rodeo.

 

This long‑standing event welcomes individuals, businesses, organizations, and community groups to participate and be part of a one‑of‑a‑kind tribute to rodeo tradition and community pride.

Due to parade permitting constraints that are beyond our control, horses other than those in the pre-approved SWD Rodeo Trail Riding group are not permitted to be ntered in the parade.
